The hacker can't resist, and he's put in a six month healing stasis. If the hacker does a good job, he'll be surgically outfitted with military grade technology as a bonus. He's arrested by the military and offered a deal by a man named Diego-move some data or the hacker gets locked up. The story begins with a law breaking hacker peaking into top secret data. The game takes place on a space station 74 trillion miles away from Earth. It introduces many elements that would show up throughout the Shock line of games, like recorded messages found on bodies, a great twist, and a believable environment. It was published in 1994 and it's credited for influencing the juggernaut IP that is Bioshock. System Shock was created by Irrational Games Looking Glass Studios, directed by Warren Spector. I've done a bunch of research of System Shock, so I'll talk a little bit about what I know about the game. Since the game is essentially abandonware, it's available for free, though I'm honestly not sure of the legal stuff. Luckily, there's a modded version of System Shock called System Shock Portable that's available through a quick web search. I played that game for about 3 hours before I decided that I wanted to know more about the first game. I would have never bought that game if it weren't for the community here. So I started out playing System Shock 2 after purchasing it on a Steam sale.
